Security+ SY0–601 Experience

I am currently in an immersive cybersecurity bootcamp, which we had two weeks off in between the first and second phases of the bootcamp. In the first phase of the bootcamp we primarily focused on Red Team practices, although for my career choice I would like to focus on Blue Team. Mainly trying to find an entry level SOC Analyst position. So for the two week break we had, I decided to give the Sec+ certification exam a try knowing that it would possibly give me a leg up in the job search after graduation. I had about two weeks to really focus and study.

Some of the resources I used to study were practice questions online, for example: https://www.examcompass.com/comptia-security-plus-practice-test-1-exam-sy0-601

That link gave a practice exam and if you got something wrong it would give an explanation, which I thought was a big help rather than me having to research on my own why I got something wrong.

I also used Professor Messer’s youtube study group series for the Sec+ SY0–601: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yn2gTag1O0

I thought his youtube series helped a lot and you could even fast forward to the practice questions if thats all you were trying to do.

The resource I should have studied more of was: https://quizlet.com/526530796/security-cert-exam-objectives-syo-601-flash-cards/.

FEEDBACK ON EXAM

I didn’t necessarily think the exam was hard or contained hard questions, but I did not pass and below I’ll give my explanation on my opinion of the exam, and how I could of prepared more.

While taking the exam I found myself thinking there were multiple right answers for almost every other question, which led me to take extra time on questions so I felt pressured to finish towards the end, also I wasn’t exactly sure of what some of the words meant in the questions themselves. Thats why while studying before I take the certification again I am definitely going to really focus on that quizlet link I attached above and just definitions in general. I feel that I 100% would have passed the exam if I had memorized definitions more.
